Higgins spoke on the Muck Bowl experience.
“My great catch happened on our first drive of the game after Glades Central scored and a long run from Jenorris [Wilcher],” Higgins said. “To me the Muck Bowl is just a normal game, but it’s great for both cities [Pahokee and Belle Glade] to play and attend. The Muck bowl is the biggest rivalry in the nation, and it’s an honor to be a part of a culture that produced many NFL pros.”
Higgins reflected on his junior season with the Blue Devils.
“My season went pretty decent,” Higgins said. “But I know I could’ve did much better and should’ve been there from the start, as I was going through some off-the-field issues. But other than that, I accepted and competed to earn my way back. I loved learning and working with my group. I feel the only thing I hope would’ve gone differently was if everyone was more healthy as we faced some adversities as a team.”
With that said, Higgins has credited Pahokee head coach Matthew Sparrowhawk for helping him navigate through this past season and more.
“I met Coach Sparrowhawk when I was in seventh grade, and I knew from the start he was a great coach,” Higgins said. “When I came in as a freshman, he personally taught me a lot and pushed me to my limits. Now that he’s head coach, he trusts me a lot more to show leadership and push my teammates to their limits on and off the field.”
At this time, Higgins has no college scholarship offers. But he has gained interest from the likes of FIU, USF, Western Michigan, and UAB.
As Higgins works to improve his craft through workouts, track, and 7-on-7 play, he is focused on what his upcoming senior season goals are right now.
“I want to get 1,000+ yards, at least 12 touchdowns, and First Team All-State,” Higgins said. “I’m gunning for the Lou Groza Award too. But I ultimately expect a state championship, nothing less.”
