WEST PALM BEACH – Watching Corrado DeSantis come off the blocks to prepare for the 400 meter race, it was easy to see his level of focus and determination on display.
The Dwyer senior and three-sport athlete (track, wrestling, and football) would go on and capture a personal record time of 50.17 seconds in the 400 during the Palm Beach County Track Meet at Cardinal Newman.
Though he placed seventh overall – Cardinal Newman senior Dallas Desouza would go on to win the event with a time of 47.96 seconds – DeSantis was just getting in prep mode for the last race of the night.
In the boys 4×400 relay, DeSantis was the lead racer as the first leg and teammates Miguel Martinez (second leg; sophomore), Jordan Quince (third leg; sophomore), and Rodney Green (last leg; anchor; senior) finished the race with a meet-best time of 3:25.63.
DeSantis led a team celebration of their relay victory to end the night at Cardinal Newman.

Pahokee senior and two-sport athlete Pierre Fertil (track and basketball) did not directly race against DeSantis in the 4×400 – Pahokee and Dwyer were in two different heats. But Pahokee’s 4×400 relay team did finish in fourth place with a time of 3:29.72.
Fertil spoke on DeSantis and what he has accomplished in football and track.
“Corrado as a player on the field stood out because he was always flying around the field and always around the ball,” Fertil said. “He’s an amazing athlete. He lined up at more than on position when they played us.”
SIDE NOTE: Pahokee beat Dwyer on the road for a 27-13 triumph in Week 6 of the 2023 season.
Fertil did not stop there.
“He’s a freak of an athlete,” Fertil said. “He has a big frame and a very strong build, but that doesn’t slow him down. He got out at first leg. Someone that big shouldn’t be moving as fast as him. That’s nothing but God-given ability. If he can keep working and adding stuff to his bag in a few more years, he’s going to be a household name and the next best thing coming out of Dwyer High School.”
At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, DeSantis has a very good-to-great amount of stamina. It comes out on display at the track, on the wrestling mat, and on the field.
Back on the track, DeSantis also recorded the following marks on Tuesday:
•Long jump: 21 feet (seventh place overall)
•200 meter race: 23.22 seconds (10th place overall)
“I did my best, but I’m still improving throughout the season,” DeSantis said. “I get better every meet.”
The art of continuous improvement was evident in the other two sports that DeSantis has participated in.
In wrestling, DeSantis placed eighth in the Class 3A state meet several weeks ago.
We have some clips to show you on how DeSantis earned his way to a state wrestling title appearance in the 190-pound class.
Meanwhile, football is the sport in which DeSantis likes the most and will continue to compete in on the next level.
You can watch the Palm Beach County All-Star’s film to see all the action for yourself.
DeSantis on his senior year at Dwyer:
“We’ll start out with football,” DeSantis said. “I balled out this year. Multiple games with double-digit solo tackles, a couple of picks, a couple of blocked punts. I really did my thing. And in wrestling, I placed eighth in the state with a 44-4 record.”

DeSantis looks to make his final college decision in a few weeks. It could be Stetson, FAU as a walk-on, or somewhere else.
What happens next is anyone’s guess. But there are two major things left for DeSantis before the next level happens: the completion of track season and his graduation from Dwyer High School – both of which will happen in May.
It has been a blessing to follow the DeSantis Journey in football, wrestling, and track for the 2023-2024 school year at Dwyer. We wish DeSantis the best in everything he sets out to accomplish both now and in the future.
