District champ: Andrew ‘Rico’ Joseph leads Park Vista in prime situation

WEST PALM BEACH – In Andrew “Rico” Joseph’s first season as a head coach, he has led the Park Vista to the Class 2A-District 22 title.

This milestone moment occurred on Thursday night (April 11) at Forest Hill, as the No. 1 seed Lady Cobras (14-3) outlasted the No. 2 seed Lady Falcons (10-5) in a 24-12 road win.

The Park Vista Lady Cobras flag football team has won the Class 2A-District 22 title in 2024.

“It was a team effort,” Joseph said. “I just got to give credit to the entire team. They have been battling all year long. They come to work every day. They get better every day. And I’m just super excited for this bunch. I’ve been saying this day one. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.”

Lady Cobras sophomore quarterback Jordana Weil had four touchdown passes in the district title game, including one to senior Saniya Frazier.

“Well, it was everybody catching it,” Weil said. “They completed the passes. You can’t score without them catching it.”

Joseph spoke on the team’s will to win it, as the game was tied at 6-6 with about 1:00 left in the second quarter.

“Every time they tried to make a comeback, we answered,” Joseph said. “That was the biggest thing. We had to answer big, and we did.”

For this Lady Cobras bunch, it was the first time they had won a district title.

“It’s big for everyone,” Joseph said. “That’s why I’m super happy for every one of these girls.”

With that said, Park Vista is now on a seven-game winning streak in which it has outscored its opponents by a score of 230-25. This includes a total of five shutout wins, all by at least 33 points.

The Lady Cobras started their season at 6-0 before hitting a brief three-game losing streak to the likes of Pembroke Pines Charter (18-7 loss on March 9), Lincoln Park Academy (13-12 loss on March 12), and Fort Pierce Central (27-13), all of which are district championships and top-tier teams in the state.

The rough three-game stretch prepared Park Vista for what it hopes to be a state title run this year in Class 2A.

“There’s ups and downs,” Joseph said. “You gotta battle through adversity. You have everybody on the same page. You get to a point where things are going to go bad. I tell them it’s not always going to be flowers. It’s about how you answer. And when you answer in the right way, you see what happens. You’re successful.”

PLEASE NOTE: Park Vista has been awarded as the No. 4 seed in Class 2A-Region 6 and will be hosting No. 5 seed Spanish River (11-6; 2A-District 23 champion) in the 2A regional quarterfinal round on Thursday, April 18.
