Baseball: Glades Day comes back against Bronson to win FHSAA District 8-1A semis

BELLE GLADE – Call it a comeback and then some.

The Glades Day Gators baseball team faced an early 4-0 deficit to the Bronson Eagles in the first inning of the FHSAA District 8-1A semifinal round. It seemed as if the home team (No. 2 seed; 15-7) would see their season end quickly in front of the Glades Day faithful at Homer Hand Field on Tuesday (April 30).

Not so fast.

The four-run deficit to the road team (No. 3 seed; 6-11 final record) would last until the bottom of the second inning. We will show you how the 4-0 deficit turned into a 7-4 lead for the Gators.

No scoring action from either team took place in the third inning. But the fourth inning was quite different in its own right.

We will have you take a look at it all for yourself.

By the time the fourth inning wrapped up, Glades Day’s 10-5 lead over Bronson seemed to be a precursor for how this one would end.

If a team is up by 10 runs in the FHSAA district or state playoffs, the game ends at that point.

Suffice to say, we got to the fifth and sixth innings before the final score said 15-5. Watch it all for yourself right below.

After this Glades Day home district playoff game ended, we got postgame interviews from head coach Rene Leon Jr., senior shortstop and pitcher Marquis Clarke, and sophomore outfielder Adrian Baeze. Take a look by listening for yourself.

Winning pitcher: Clarke – 5 1/3 innings of relief, 1 earned run allowed

Impact hitter: Clarke – HR, 2-RBI single; accounted for at least three runs in Glades Day’s 15-5 win

NEXT GAME FOR GLADES DAY: Thursday, May 2 at No. 1 seed Williston (8-18); First pitch time TBA – District 8-1A championship
