Get to know: DE Zayvion Hayes

LAKE WORTH BEACH – Few outside of Inlet Grove and loved ones may know much of anything about Zayvion Hayes.

But that will change now.

During the 561 Showcase this past Saturday (April 27) at Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound defensive end was able to soak up the experience of learning from several coaches in both the individual drills and the DL vs. OL 1-on-1’s.

Hayes reflected on his experience at the event.

“I got to learn new things,” the Inlet Grove 2026 defensive end said. “I loved the 1-on-1’s. It got very physical. I learned to shoot my hands and move my hands. I learned that you can’t bullrush everybody.”

Hayes didn’t stop there.

“I got at least like 10 reps,” Hayes said. “It was so many edges out there, so I had to be adjustable and I went to defensive tackle. I was 2-for-4 from edge before I went in to d-tackle and won four of those reps.”

The Inlet Grove sophomore completed his first season of organized football this past year. He spoke on this experience and how it inspired him to grow in more ways than one.

“Last season I wasn’t playing too much,” Hayes said. “I had to work my way up. At the end of the season, I started playing more. But I love getting into pads and getting physical. It’s everything.”

Hayes spoke on how the 561 Showcase will help him apply the skills he learned to the spring football circuit and beyond.

“I gotta move my hands,” Hayes said. “I gotta work on that. There’s always ways to improve.”

Hayes spoke on the impact that Inlet Grove head coach, Belle Glade native, and Glades Central alum Rashad Jackson has had in his development as a football player.

“He’s just always been there,” Hayes said. “He makes me feel like it’s at home. He always pushes me. He’s the reason why I’m at this camp. Thank you coach.”

Jackson spoke on Hayes’ potential and more.

“Zayvion is a great young man on and off the field,” Jackson said. “Kid has so much upside, standing 6-6, 225 pounds as a sophomore. A two-sport athlete, the center on the basketball team, and starting DE for the Inlet Grove Hurricanes football team. This kid is the definition of hard work and dedication Colleges will be after Zay big time this spring. He’s long, quick and explosive.”

Speaking of the spring football circuit, Hayes spoke on how his first day was yesterday (April 29).

“It went great,” Hayes said. “We’re going back to the fundamentals. The coaches are teaching us the proper way to do things to prevent injuries.”
