The Okeechobee ‘26 quarterback/athlete has made it known that he wants to be part of a positive culture shift movement for this year and beyond. He spoke on how the past five days have worked out and more.

“The chemistry is there with my teammates,” the 5-foot-10, 150-pound quarterback/athlete said. “The ones I played with freshman year and the younger guys, we are really meshing great. I love that the coaches are changing the culture here and what Coach [BJ] Pryor is doing.”

Evans spoke specifically about Pryor, who is the Okeechobee head coach.

“Coach BJ Pryor is a man of God who sets a great example for everyone around him,” Evans said. “He wants all of his players to be successful on the varsity and JV levels. He’s a man of his word, leading Okeechobee to a winning season/record (6-4 in 2023), as opposed in the past, when this program had two 0-win seasons. He’s turning the culture around.”

Evans had more to say about the spring practice environment at Okeechobee.

“I’m loving my new offensive line,” Evans said. “They are smart, physical guys. Without them, we wouldn’t be anything. But just knowing they’ll give their everything for me – as I’ll do the same for them – is great. We are hitting the nail offensively, and defensively we’re looking great.”

Evans has been on a mission since he made his transfer move from Sebastian River this past season as a sophomore. In the 2023 season, Evans registered 200+ yards passing and five touchdown passes, while helping the Sharks win the Sunshine State Athletic Conference’s Atlantic state title and finish with a 6-4 record.

The former Sebastian River quarterback touched on how his sophomore season went there.

“My sophomore season was a lot of overcoming adversity and just pushing through every day, being the best me I could be,” Evans said. “It was great being with the coaches, the staff, the parents, and my teammates. I loved everything about this past season. Would I change things? Yes. But everything that happened made me the person and player I am now. Anyone in my position would’ve given up, but I put my head down and kept working. Even when I wasn’t QB1 at time, I kept working and kept being the leader I am.”

Evans did not stop there.

“The only thing I would have done differently was transferring earlier during the summer to be more familiar with the system,” Evans said. “But I took the initiative to learn my playbook in my down time during school, at home, every chance I had.”

Evans spoke on the reasoning to him going back to Okeechobee in this offseason.

“Living arrangements was the main thing,” Evans said. “With my family still living in Okeechobee, it was a lot not seeing my family until weekends. But I did it all season, sacrificing time with my family to be there. Now with the quick change of living arrangements, my mom said it’s time to come home now. I’m back home, where I started my high school career.”

Evans shared his aspirations for the entire spring football circuit and beyond with the Brahmans.

“You can look forward to me leading my team and successfully running the offense smoothly, while also getting some DB (defensive back) reps because I’m an athlete,” Evans said. “Beyond the spring, going into the summer and fall you can look forward to me putting some weight on. And as my stepfather tells me, every day I have to keep getting bigger, faster, and stronger. As the season comes through, you can look forward to seeing the game changer and the field general I am. I’m just a natural leader, and I’m looking forward to a great junior season.”
