Spring Football Experience: Glades Day rips Canterbury

BELLE GLADE – This has been a spring football game experience to remember for Glades Day.

The Gators started their spring operations on Monday, April 29 and ended it on Thursday, May 16 with a home game against Canterbury (Fort Myers).

It could not have gone much better for Glades Day, which scored once in all four quarters to earn a 28-0 win over Canterbury.

Glades Day ‘25 athlete Logan Wilkins is the team’s new quarterback for the ‘24 season. His arm was on display in his team’s spring football game against Canterbury (Fort Myers) on Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Belle Glade.

The spring game’s top two overall players – Logan Wilkins (‘25 ATH) and Da’Coby Wooten (‘27 ATH) – made sure to make their collective presences felt on the field.

How did this happen?

First things first: Wilkins completed 10 of 13 passes for 150+ yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers. He added eight carries for 50+ yards.

Next: Both touchdown passes from Wilkins were thrown to Wooten, who has emerged as the Muck’s No. 1 overall player for the spring.

Watch one of Wooten’s first-half touchdown catches below.

Wooten broke down both touchdown catches in his own way.

“The first touchdown was on me and my QB Logan Wilkins,” Wooten said. “Our offensive line did their job so my QB would have enough time to put it out there for me. I just went up and made a play on the ball.”

Wooten’s first touchdown catch was on Glades Day’s first offensive drive. It featured him making multiple catches prior to the score that helped his team get an early 7-0 lead.

As for the second touchdown catch, Wooten made sure to recap this one, which helped Glades Day extend its lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.

“The second touchdown was a screen play to the right,” Wooten said. “Logan got the ball out to me and it was all I needed. My slot wide receiver [Kani Clark] got a block for me and that was all I needed. And before the touchdown, I caught a screen to the left and got another first down. After that, I ran one to the left and scored.”

With the halftime score being 14-0 in favor of Glades Day, head coach Zach Threkeld wanted to get others involved for the second half of play. And that is exactly what happened.

Ramsey “Rambo” Rimes (‘27 LB/RB) caught an interception and returned it for a touchdown in the third quarter against Canterbury.

“I think that it help the defense work together,” Rimes said. “We have been working on playing the routes right and making sure we’re guarding the right people.”

The fourth quarter was when Micah Dixon (‘28 RB) had his own breakout moment. His rushing touchdown sealed the 28-0 win for Glades Day.

“Logan handed me off the ball on the read-option and the linemen opened up the hole for me to run the ball,” Dixon said. “I had to fight my way into the end zone for the final five yards.”

Threkeld went ahead to speak on the entire spring football circuit and what we can expect for the summer months ahead from Glades Day.
