Spring football: Martin County outlasts Pahokee, 17-8

STUART – Patience is key.

This is what the Martin County Tigers used in earnest as they overcame an early 8-0 deficit by scoring 17 unanswered points in their 17-8 spring football game victory over the Pahokee Blue Devils on Thursday (May 16).

To end the first quarter, Martin County ‘25 kicker John Connolly kicked an easy field goal to cut the Pahokee lead to 8-3.

Then from there, Martin County employed a methodical approach that worked nearly to perfection.

Martin County would go into halftime with its 10-8 lead over Pahokee.

The third quarter resulted in no scoring from either team. But we did get a nice defensive play from Pahokee in this frame.

The fourth quarter was a different story, however.

Shortly after the final frame started, quarterback Vaughn O’Brien (‘25) threw a screen pass to running back Paul Hendrix (‘26), who took it straight to the house for a score.

From there, Connolly kicked an extra point to put Martin County up 17-8 over Pahokee with 11:21 left.

Not long after the game wrapped up, six Martin County players agreed to be interviewed by media members as a group.
