Connection bonds matter: WR Jamar Browder

LANTANA – Almost one month ago, Jamar Browder made his final college decision.

The Santaluces 2025 wide receiver picked up a whopping 25 college scholarship offers in his recruiting process. But of those 25 schools, he chose the one he felt most comfortable with.

It turned out to be NC State.

Browder went into his why for going with the Wolfpack on Sunday, June 9.

“Just the coaching staff…but it’s also the people in North Carolina,” the 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver said. “In Florida, you’ll meet a couple of rough-around-the-edges type of people down here. But in North Carolina, nobody was mean. Everybody was cool. The waitresses, they were telling me if I don’t like this, I could replace this and they won’t charge me. It’s small stuff like that. The teammates, they were in good spirits. So that means they’re doing something right up there.”

Another factor into Browder’s decision was the chance to continue being teammates with fellow NC State verbal commit and Santaluces 2025 cornerback Caden Gordon, who made his final college decision three days later (Wednesday, June 12).

“It just makes things more exciting,” Browder said. “Obviously going to college is exciting already. You’re going to have to meet new people and stuff like that, getting a new friend group. Having someone that I already know is going to eliminate all of that, having to be all in everybody’s face. Having my dog with me already, I don’t have to build new bonds and put my trust in other people. Me and him, we get to work and chill, do what we do, live the college life, stuff like that.”

Team bonding is very important to Browder. He expounds on how Santaluces makes this possible.

“We do team bonding every day, offseason, during the season,” Browder said. “Even if it’s going to get food, going to Wal-Mart, going on store runs, hanging out with each other. A couple of us live in the same area. We’ll pick each other up, get something to eat, and other stuff like that.”

Browder did not stop there.

“Our quarterback Chris Siska, his dad throws some stuff for us on the grill and cooks for us after practice at his house,” Browder said. “We’ll chill over there. That’s a team bonding moment for us.”

Knowing that the close bonds are intact within his circle, Browder is able to be at his best with Santaluces.

Case in point: In last weekend’s Keiser 7-on-7 Tournament on June 29, Browder was able to take advantage of some mismatches on the field.

Watch below to see what ultimately happened in Browder’s favor.

“Everybody is a mismatch, to be honest with you,” Browder said. “I’m not a cocky type of dude. But you should say that nobody could guard you. That’s just what it is. Have that mindset every time. Put a move on them and go get the ball.”

Fellow Santaluces 2025 teammate and Pahokee native AnaTay Smith concurs.

“He’s a dog,” Smith said. “All around.”

We have film and statistics to back up Browder’s words. In 11 games as a junior this past season, the Wolfpack verbal commit registered the following:

•39 catches, 730 yards, 14 touchdowns

Best two individual performances of last season:

•Week 8 in 24-21 loss to Boca Raton: 4 catches, 123 yards, 1 touchdown

•Week 12 – Class 4M-Region 3 quarterfinals against Palm Beach Gardens in 35-28 win: 6 catches, 88 yards, 3 touchdowns
