JENSEN BEACH – Colleges have been clamoring for Julius Puryear’s services.
After all, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Jensen Beach has been one of the most consistent players on the Treasure Coast for both his sophomore and junior seasons.

To make this point plain and clear, we will highlight what transpired this past season alone. Puryear posted the following statistics:
•97 total tackles (63 solo, 34 assist)
•29 tackles for loss
•13 sacks
•3 interceptions
Best individual game – Week 1 against Fort Pierce Central in 28-0 win with:
•12 tackles
•3 tackles for loss
•2 sacks
•1 interception
Puryear touched on how this past year turned out for him at Jensen Beach.
“My junior season at Jensen Beach went just as we planned it,” Puryear said. “What I loved about it was that everyone was willing to ride with each other since Day 1. Special group of dudes.”
As a result of his on-field production, Puryear earned a total of 20 scholarship offers. They came from the following schools:
•Delaware
•Army West Point
•Cornell
•Toledo
•FAU
•Western Kentucky
•Appalachian State
•East Carolina
•Fordham
•UTEP
•Eastern Michigan
•Wofford
•Lehigh
•Air Force
•North Carolina A&T
•Bucknell
•Bryant
•Austin Peay
•Towson
Of these 20 colleges, Puryear selected his top three. They were the following:
•Delaware
•Army
•Cornell
Puryear on Delaware:
“UD has its benefits of being in Conference USA and playing big teams like Colorado, Wake Forrest, and UConn,” he said.
Puryear on Army:
“West Point has a pull for life after ball, as you are enlisted after you do graduate,” he said.
Puryear on Cornell:
“Just for the benefit of the education, Cornell also has a pull for life after ball,” he said.
After mulling his options, Puryear decided to go with Delaware. He made his decision yesterday (July 5).
Puryear on what led him to choose Delaware:
“The Delaware coaching staff is live,” he said. “They have an enthusiastic demeanor as they are transferring into Conference USA. They are serious about me, and I am serious about them. The players were and are great people. And the environment is a place I can see myself playing at for the next four years.”
We wish Puryear nothing but the best as he looks to have a strong senior season at Jensen Beach and amazing future after his high school experience ends.
