Recovery mission: QB Chris Siska

LANTANA – Chris Siska missed out on playing for Santaluces throughout his sophomore season.

The 2026 quarterback’s extended time off the field was due to an injury he sustained prior to the start of the 2023 fall campaign.

With that said, Siska is focused on the present more than anything else.

This summer offseason has proven to be a pivotal one for the up and coming quarterback – in a good way.

For starters, Siska helped lead Santaluces to the semifinal round of the Keiser 7-on-7 Tournament on June 29. He spoke of the overall experience that transpired in West Palm Beach.

“It went good,” the 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback said. “We went 2-1 in pool play. And then we went to play and went 2-0 against West Boca and Fort Pierce Central. We played Atlantic and lost, but it was alright. We could’ve played better, but we gotta practice and put in the work. I had a couple of good throws. I had fun.”

Some of Siska’s best throws were to 2025 wide receiver and NC State verbal commit Jamar Browder. He spoke on the 6-foot-4, 200-pound phenom and what he means to the team.

“He’s insane,” Siska said. “He can run fast, run routes well and catch well. If I’m in trouble, I’m throwing the ball to Jamar.”

Siska on fellow 2025 standouts AnaTay Smith and Israel Marion:

“AnaTay played more defense than offense,” Siska said. “He had like four interceptions in the tournament. He did good. And Izzy had a couple of touchdowns with double head tops. He did good also.”

Smith spoke on Siska’s performance and how he is fitting in with the team.

“He’s still young,” Smith said. “He’s getting a feel for the game. He’s doing good in the 7-on-7’s. We’re just waiting for the regular season.”

As Siska works out with his receivers on timing, accuracy, rhythm, and chemistry throughout the summer offseason, he is expecting a big payoff throughout his upcoming junior season with Santaluces.

“I’m hoping for a great year with a lot of touchdowns and no picks,” Siska said. “I’m hoping for a winning record…well, I know we’re going to get it. I’m hoping to go far in the playoffs and hopefully win states.”

Siska spoke on how he is taking steps now in terms of improving his craft en route to his aspirations for the upcoming fall season.

“On our off days, I work out with the receivers,” Siska said. “We get to use our field. I just throw to my receivers, work on my footwork, work on my pass, my timing, everything.”

Siska on his leadership style:

“I like to push my team as the leader,” Siska said. “I want them to be better than they are. I want them to push themselves. I want them to be able to go out by themselves and work. I just like to lead by example.”

Siska on Santaluces head coach Hector Clavijo III:

“He’s awesome,” Siska said. “I came here when he came here. He’s the reason why I came here as a freshman, pretty much. I just love him. He has turned this program around.”
