True brotherhood: Moore Haven Terriers look to make history this season

MOORE HAVEN – Coming off last year’s Class 1S playoff run to the regional final, the Moore Haven Terriers look to build off that and more in 2024.

For starters, Glades County’s only high school football program has changed head coaches. They went from Jack Garrett (Belle Glade native; head coach from 2022 to 2023) to Emanuel Hendrix (Pahokee native; 2024).

What must be said is that Moore Haven’s two most recent head coaches are from the Muck, and both of them have a state championship-winning pedigree. And with that being said, Moore Haven is in good hands with Hendrix now at the helm.

Moore Haven Terriers head coach Emanuel Hendrix spoke with his players after practice concluded on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024 at Moore Haven Junior-Senior High School in Moore Haven, Fla.

“With all these different teams with different players coming in, he brought a different culture that what we expected to have to begin with,” Moore Haven senior offensive lineman Levi Watson said. “He brings that hard work and that dedication. It’s just different now.”

If one takes the time to speak with the players, it is quite evident there is a positive atmosphere in place.

“Coach Cash [Hendrix] is a great coach,” Moore Haven junior athlete Daquon Adderley said. “I’m glad he came from where he came from to Moore Haven. He pushes you for greater. He expects a lot of you and helps you to the goal you want. That’s great coaching.”

If the true homegrown players feel the love and the desire for growth from a head coach, then others will follow.

“He puts in time for you to get better,” Moore Haven junior defensive end/tight end Aaryn Askew said. “As for me, he puts in time for me to get better. He just says to be disciplined and show respect. He’s going to put you in position to make plays.”

Yesterday (Aug. 5) was the first practice in which Moore Haven operated in full pads. We will show you footage below of how it all went down.

One thing stood out from all the footage that was available for yesterday’s open practice. Players from at least five different communities contributed to the mostly strong showing that took place, especially at the end with the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 full team portions of it.

To highlight this point further, the five primary communities that are represented on this year’s Moore Haven team are:

•Moore Haven

•Clewiston

•South Bay

•Belle Glade

•Pahokee

In several of the clips, we see the presumed starting quarterback in action. His name is Ty Warren, he’s from Clewiston, and he’s an incoming senior.

Meanwhile, we got the longest run of the day from senior athlete Michael Liriano, who is from Belle Glade.

Speaking of Liriano, he is one of the featured speakers you can see in the following three clips below from Moore Haven Media Day on Aug. 5.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a lot more to come regarding Moore Haven’s brotherhood mission. Stay tuned for Clewiston’s part.
