PAHOKEE – It was a close one up until past the midpoint of the fourth quarter on Thursday night (Aug. 15).
Up 7-0, the Pahokee Blue Devils found a way to extend their lead over the Boynton Beach Tigers by way of a 3-yard fumble recovery to the end zone. This happened at the 6:46 mark of the final frame, when junior lineman Tristian Gooden scooped up the lost ball and ran it quickly into the end zone.
With the extra point, Pahokee extended its lead to 14-0 over Boynton Beach.
Shortly thereafter, both teams shined on defense as they stopped drives from making a meaningful impact. But when we reached the 4:43 mark of the fourth, a high snap directly resulted into a safety that went in Pahokee’s favor, making the score 16-0 in the process.
To close this game out, we saw a key run from sophomore athlete Zachary Mitchell, who led Pahokee into Boynton Beach’s red zone. Not long after that, Mitchell punched in a short run to the end zone for a score with 20.2 seconds left.
Another extra point sealed the deal for Pahokee to make it 23-0 from that point all the way to the final buzzer.
Watch how the game’s last scoring drive unfolded.
Pahokee standouts J’Tavious Jones (2025 defensive back), Xavier Mitchell (2026 quarterback), Kani Smith (2025 defensive end/linebacker), and Zachary Mitchell (2027 athlete) spoke on the game’s outcome and how new Pahokee head coach Carlos Lammons led the team to his first win at the helm.
