PORT ST. LUCIE – Ahmar Atwell is looking to make the most of his high school football career on the Treasure Coast.
The 2025 athlete, who got his start at Fort Pierce Central, played for the Treasure Coast Titans in his junior season. He finished with the following statistics:
•700 pass yards
•20.5 yards per completion
•100 rush yards
•10 pass touchdowns
Atwell spoke on how his junior season went at Treasure Coast.
“I loved the camaraderie and the relationships the coaches built with the players,” the 6-foot, 180-pound athlete said. “Everyone was like a family. But what I wish could’ve gone differently was for certain games, we could have thrown the ball more. For example, we could have done more against Deland when we lost in the playoffs.”
In the offseason, Atwell transferred from Treasure Coast to Tradition Prep. Both schools are located in Port St. Lucie, which means the move was a close one.

Atwell on his desire to play for Tradition Prep as a senior:
“What led to my decision was I wanted to be able to consistently show off my ability to throw the ball consistently and accurately,” he said.
Atwell stated that he wants to play college football at the quarterback position. There could be some opportunities there, as Trine and Millsaps were the first two colleges to offer him recently.
The Tradition Prep senior quarterback has gained interest from other schools such as Yale, Morgan State, Dartmouth, UPenn, Shepard, Webber, and Harvard.
Now with that said, the focus for Atwell will be on this season for the next few months with the Pirates.
In Tradition Prep’s Week 0 game at home against LaBelle on Saturday, Aug. 17, Atwell led a spirited drive to the end zone on the game’s first offensive series. He completed a 57-yard pass to fellow senior Jahzion Drummond and then used his legs to scamper his way for a 17-yard touchdown run.
Atwell’s score gave Tradition Prep an early 6-0 lead over LaBelle.
However, Tradition Prep would not score again as LaBelle scored 10 unanswered points in the second half.
The final score was 10-6 in favor of LaBelle (1-0) and against Tradition Prep (0-1).
“We could have been a bit simpler,” Atwell said. “We tried to do too much and focused too much on their team. We should have paid more attention to detail in our fundamentals. As a team, we are working on it and we are getting better by the day.”
From Week 1 until the end of this season, Atwell has aspirations for what he wants to see happen at Traditional Prep.
“The team goal is to make it to states and win, no less,” said Atwell, who is currently ranked as Muck City Media’s No. 26 overall player for the Treasure Coast’s Class of 2025. “We gotta keep the bar set high. And for my individual goals, I want to rush for 1,000 yards and pass for 3,000. This past game wasn’t too great, but it’s going to be made up for.”
