Around the Lake for Week 2: Pahokee earns 27-7 home win over Inlet Grove

PAHOKEE – The Pahokee Blue Devils had success on offense, defense, and special teams last night (Aug. 30) against the Inlet Grove Hurricanes.

Held at Anquan Boldin Stadium in Pahokee, we got a complete team effort from start to finish in the home squad’s 27-7 victory.

Pahokee (1-1) scored once in each quarter and never trailed in this one.

The first touchdown came from senior running back Rashon Brown, which occurred in the first quarter. Brown’s rushing score helped the Blue Devils get out in front with a 7-0 lead.

In the next frame, we got a touchdown from athlete Uzarus Boswell, who took it to the house off a kickoff return. After Boswell’s special teams score and extra point that followed, Pahokee extended its lead to 14-0 over Inlet Grove (1-1).

With the Hurricanes down 14 points to the Blue Devils at halftime, they were thinking about a comeback run. But the home team did not take too long to extinguish those hopes in the second half.

Pahokee scored again in the third quarter, as junior athlete Larry Warren reached the end zone on a running play. This would extend the home team’s lead further to 20-0.

And after Inlet Grove found a way to cut the lead to 20-7 near the end of the third quarter, it was closeout time for Pahokee.

The game was iced in stone with 6:16 left in the fourth quarter, as Boswell boldly caught an interception to take it home. And with the extra point that followed, Pahokee had itself a 20-point lead that held serve until the final buzzer.

After the game, seven players chose to speak with both Muck Boy Edits and Muck City Media – the Muck’s two media outlets – about how they went on to give head coach Carlos Lammons his first win at the helm.

NEXT WEEK: Pahokee will host Seminole Ridge (0-2) in Week 3 on Friday, Sept. 5 at Anquan Boldin Stadium. Meanwhile, Inlet Grove will enjoy its bye in Week 3.

OTHER FINAL SCORES AROUND THE LAKE

Glades Central 20, Martin County 14

First-year head coach Omar Haugabook earns his second win at the helm as he continues to lead his team in the right direction. The Raiders are now 2-0 on the season.

Meanwhile, Martin County nearly overcame its 20-0 deficit to Glades Central by scoring the game’s final 14 points in the second half. While the Tigers are 0-2 to start the season, both losses were close ones, including Week 1’s 20-12 loss to Sebring.

Skinny: Both teams are better than expected. One must look beyond just the wins and losses to see this fact.

Glades Day 38, Windermere Prep 7

Longtime head coach Zach Threkeld has his team off to a great start, as the Gators (2-0) fired on all cylinders in their spirited 31-point home win over the Lakers (1-1).

Immokalee 39, Clewiston 22

The Tigers (0-2) got off to a fast start against the Indians (2-0). Despite the final score and record as of now, we are seeing some progress with this relatively young team.

Second-year head coach Andrew Powell has done an admirable job of keeping this group together and inspiring them to learn from any kind of adversity that can take place at any time.

John Carroll 42, Okeechobee 2

The Brahmans (1-1) lost this one by 40 points on Thursday night (Aug. 29) to the Rams (1-0). Despite the loss, head coach BJ Pryor has his team inspired to move forward and learn from this experience.
