Groundbreaking: Wellington Athletics

WELLINGTON – It will be the first of its kind in Palm Beach County.

The Wellington Sports Academy has officially entered the beginning stages of being a reality, as evidenced by a special groundbreaking ceremony that took place at the Village of Wellington’s Village Park area on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7).

Scores of individuals witnessed the occasion, with a host of speakers lined up to highlight the dream creation that Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Famer, Palm Beach Central legend, former Florida Gators standout, and former NFL player Jon Bostic has spent years working on.

All of the Village of Wellington’s councilmen and councilwomen were present, including the following speakers:

•Mayor Michael J. Napoleone

•Vice Mayor John T. McGovern

•Councilwoman Tanya Siskand

•Councilwoman Maria Antuna

•Councilwoman Amanda Silvestri

Bostic shared his thoughts on this momentous occasion.

And to close it out before the shovel-ready photo-ops, Verdex Construction President and CEO Rex Kirby spoke on the project and how it projects to come about.

This building will be an athlete sports training complex and community fitness gym. It is projected to be an estimated $38 million-dollar facility.

Sitting on 17.2 acres of land, the high level performance gymnasium will be called Bostic Sports Performance. In this facility, the following will take place:

  • NFL and NBA combine prep
  • Offseason training location for all professional athletes
  • Host for different types of indoor and outdoor AAU tournaments

And on this facility, many key stakeholders went ahead to mark the shovel-ready project.

Napoleone shared his honest thoughts about Bostic’s vision after today’s event ended.

PLEASE NOTE: We expect the project to take at least one year to complete. We will provide further updates on the progression of it and more in the not-too-distant future.
