PAHOKEE – As the Pahokee Blue Devils have navigated through the first half of their season, they collectively experienced a series of ups and downs.

They went into Monday night’s (Sept. 30) home game against Palm Beach Gardens with a 2-2 record. They earned two comfortable wins over Inlet Grove (27-7 victory in Week 2; Friday, Aug. 30) and Seminole Ridge (28-7 victory in Week 3; Friday, Sept. 6) but suffered quality losses to Palm Beach Central (21-14 defeat in Week 1; Friday, Aug. 23) and Cardinal Newman (43-8 defeat in Week 4; Friday, Sept. 13).
Their game against Palm Beach Gardens was originally set to be on the road for Friday, Sept. 20 in Week 5, but the location changed due to lighting issues at the Palm Beach Gardens High School football field.
Then due to Hurricane Helene, Pahokee’s Week 6 game against Forest Hill – originally schedule for Thursday, Sept. 26 at home – has been either pushed back or cancelled.
Their layoff has been for 17 days.
Pahokee (3-2) earned a 15-0 win over Palm Beach Gardens (1-4) by playing well enough in all three facets of the game – offense, defense, and special teams.
All of the game’s points were scored in the first half.
The first quarter ended with Pahokee taking a 6-0 lead. It was a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Xavier Mitchell to senior wide receiver Herbert Crawford.
The second quarter was when the majority of the game’s scoring action happened.
It started with a touchdown pass from Crawford to senior running back Rashon Brown, which extended Pahokee’s lead to 12-0 almost midway through the second frame.
It ended with a short field goal made by senior kicker Jose Jaimes, who put Pahokee up 15-0 over Palm Beach Gardens with 21.5 seconds left in the first half.
And from that point on, both defenses put forth a masterful display of their talents and styles of execution to account for the final score.
We were able to catch a group interview with Pahokee head coach Carlos Lammons, who earned his first official shutout win of his head coaching career. He was joined by four of his players, including the likes of Jaimes, Crawford, Brown, and senior defense end/linebacker Kani Smith.
