In the clutch: ATH Javian Jones

WEST PALM BEACH – Javian Jones made two memorable plays this past last Friday night (Oct. 11) for King’s Academy.

The 2025 ATH caught two interceptions as returned them both for touchdowns in the fourth quarter of his team’s 28-14 home win over Somerset Academy Canyons. The second one was a 70-yarder that effectively clinched the District 11-2A title and a spot in this year’s FHSAA Class 2A playoffs for the Lions (7-0; 2-0 in 11-2A).

As a result of these two clutch plays – and others before them – Jones is now firmly in consideration for being the best overall player in Palm Beach County. He joins the likes of Jaylin Brown (Cardinal Newman ‘25 RB; Louisville verbal commit), Teddy Hoffman (Atlantic ‘25 WR; Appalachian State verbal commit), Blake Wallace (Spanish River ‘25 ATH), and others in this prestigious category.

Jones is more than just among the best overall players in Palm Beach County. He is also a key contributor to one of the best teams in Palm Beach County, as King’s Academy is one of four remaining unbeaten programs this season in the county – Boca Raton (6-0), Cardinal Newman (6-0), and Glades Central (6-0) are the others.

With that said, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete went ahead to share his thoughts on being a three-time district champion.

PLEASE NOTE: King’s Academy also won the district title in 2022 and 2023, when it was in District 9-2M with Inlet Grove, Glades Central, and Suncoast.

“My senior season at King’s is great,” Jones said. “I’m blessed to be playing here with my quarterback Joe Dailey and my guy Matt McPherson. We have been here since we were freshmen and we’re here now winning a three-peat district championship. We’re now looking forward to going even further this year.”

Last season, King’s Academy advanced to the Class 2M regional semifinal round, where its season ended in a road loss to American Heritage (Plantation) with a 9-3 final record.

Here’s hoping King’s Academy – the last Palm Beach County high school football program to reach the state title game in 2018 – can make a deep playoff run later this fall.

As for the overall contributions that Jones has been making this season to King’s Academy’s success, it is quite noticeable after seven games played.

Watch the film and posted stats below.

The best individual game for Jones came in Week 2 against Fort Pierce Westwood in a 28-21  road win on Friday, Aug. 30. Here are his statistics for that one:

OFFENSE

•5 receptions for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns

DEFENSE

•2 pass breakups, 1 interception return for 65 yards

As a result of his amazing on-field production, Jones has earned four scholarship offers to date from Western Michigan, Southern Illinois, Bryant,  and Keiser. His most recent one is from Southern Illinois.

Jones revealed where his recruiting status stands at this time.

“I’m still waiting on my offers to come after this season is over. I don’t know which school is in my services now,” Jones said. “While I still wait for more offers, there is not a specific time or date of when I’ll make my college decision.”

At this time, Jones is primarily focused on the home stretch of the regular season and then the playoffs. He shared his other goals in earnest.

“Our team goals this year were to win the district championship first and then make it past the first round of the playoffs,” Jones said. “My individual goals are to get over 1,000 yards receiving and at least have a big offer by the end of the football season.”

Jones reflected on his entire King’s Academy journey over these past few years in football, basketball, academics, and life in general.

“My experience at The King’s Academy is a blessing be able to play sports,” Jones said. “Playing football at King’s is great. Even though we had a couple of coaching changes, no one transferred. We all stuck together and believed in one another. Basketball wise, my experience was great. Having Coach [Murray] Smith as my coach was a blessing for three years, winning a district championship and making it to regionals.”

We are excited to see what the near future holds for Jones. We will have another feature on the King’s Academy standout sometime soon.
