Verge of history: Moore Haven seeks two basketball district titles

MOORE HAVEN – For the first time in school history, both the boys and girls basketball teams earned No. 1 seeds in their respective district tournaments.

And for the first time, both the girls and boys teams will be hosting the FHSAA Rural District 8 title games as clear favorites to win them both.

It all goes down this evening (Feb. 7) at the Moore Haven Junior-Senior High School Gymnasium.

LADY TERRIERS SEEK FIRST DISTRICT TITLE

The Moore Haven girls basketball program currently has a 15-3 overall record. The last two wins were against Pahokee (57-33 on Jan. 23 – regular season finale; 49-43 on Feb. 6; Rural District 8 semifinal).

These young ladies are riding a 10-game winning streak into the Rural District 8 title game against Marathon (9-7), which beat Fort Meade (9-7 final record) in its own Rural District 8 semifinal game on Feb. 5.

Expect this one to be competitive from start time finish.

And with that, we will show you a few highlights from last night’s six-point margin of victory by Moore Haven.

The Moore Haven Lady Terriers (15-3; No. 1 seed in Rural District 8 tournament) scored on a layup in the fourth quarter of their 49-43 win over the Pahokee Lady Blue Devils (7-9 final record) in the Rural 8 semis on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2024 in Moore Haven, Fla.

TERRIERS SEEK FIRST DISTRICT TITLE IN 30 YEARS

The Moore Haven boys basketball team, led by head coach Ravin Lee, are on a three-game winning streak right now. Their most recent victory was in the Rural District 8 semifinal round against No. 4 seed Marathon (11-15 final record) on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The program’s top two players are junior guards Clifford Love and Shakur Williams. They combined to score 27 points in their team’s 54-38 win two nights ago.

You can listen to Love and Williams as they recapped their semifinal win, plus their quest to win the program’s first district title since 1995.

Lee chimed in on the program’s run to the district title game as well. Hear his words on how Moore Haven’s season has gone to date.
