New beginning: Remington Young starts head coaching journey at Inlet Grove

RIVIERA BEACH – Great things come to those who wait.

Remington Young knows this quite well. Years of hard work, patience, and perseverance have finally paid off for the longtime coach, who played high school football as a running back for Glades Day back for two seasons (2006-2008).

After his time at Glades Day, Young went into the coaching realm and honed his craft in this field for 15 years. Here is a snippet of his coaching journey:

•Co-ed flag football in Palm Springs from

2010-2017 (off and on); won flag football championship in 2010

•Flag football program in Pittsburgh from 2013 to 2014; lost in championship game for 2013 and won Super Bowl with undefeated record in 2014; Youth Coach of the Year – 2015

•Middle school level at Berean Christian School

•Head coach – Wellington JV in 2018

•Jupiter Christian middle school head coach and varsity running backs coach for three season

•Oxbridge Academy assistant football coach – 2024 season

•Oxbridge Academy flag football head coach: 2021-present; five seasons at the helm

All of this coaching staff experience was enough for Young to land his first head coaching job at Inlet Grove.

The experience of a lifetime was officially posted on social media last night (April 15).

“I feel blessed and rewarded,” Young said. “Coaching youth level and up all these years, I knew it would pay off. It just took more time than I thought. But I trusted the process. Finally someone believed in me.”

Inlet Grove AD (athletic director) and Pahokee native Hikeem Banks was the one who took a chance on Young, who is very appreciative of this life-changing opportunity.

“Banks is a great leader,” Young said. He’s someone who wanted to make sure the hire was best for the kids. He’s always been an AD that I stayed in touch with. He’s the first AD to give me this chance in Palm Beach.”

Oxbridge Academy 2027 athlete Jayden St. Fort, one of the best overall football players in his class, put in a great word for Young.

“Remy, he’s my guy,” St. Fort said. “Since I’ve been at Oxbridge, we’ve been close. He’s a real dog. He deserves the best.”

Young will be replacing a former Lou Groza Coach of the Year winner in Rashad Jackson, a Belle Glade native and Glades Central alum who was the head coach at his alma mater for two seasons (2020-2021) before taking the reins as the head coach at Inlet Grove for three seasons (2022-2024). Jackson stepped down from

the Inlet Grove head coach position recently and accepted a college coaching opportunity at West Virginia State.

With spring football starting in 12 days, Young will be working quickly to establish a coaching staff and culture identity for the Hurricanes football program. Time will tell how the spring football circuit will transpire at Inlet Grove.

Aside from being the newly installed head coach  for the Hurricanes, Young has some unfinished business with Oxbridge Academy’s girls flag football program. He is in the midst of his best season at the helm, as the Lady Thunderwolves (11-3) are the No. 3 seed in the FHSAA District 11-1A tournament and will be on the road tonight (April 16; 6 p.m. start time) at No. 2 seed Gateway Charter (Fort Myers) (8-1).

Oxbridge Academy’s flag football team has had some great wins, including two against Glades Central (32-0 on Feb. 2; 12-6 on April 1) and one against Pahokee (26-0 on Feb. 20).  And in the last game – 11-1A district quarterfinal – Young’s senior quarterback Liani Gil threw for seven touchdowns in a 53-0 home win over No. 6 seed SLAM Palm Beach (3-10 final record).

Young is vying for his first flag football district championship as a head coach. We will see how this goes.

Stay tuned for further updates of Oxbridge’s potential FHSAA district title and state playoff run.
