YPSILANTI, Mich. – Davontey Oliver made the most of his official college visit to Eastern Michigan on Monday (June 9).

In the middle of his OV, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back from Somerset Academy Canyons (Boynton Beach, Fla.) decided that the MAC program would be his college football destination. He went ahead to proudly announce his decision on his Instagram and X social media accounts.
Oliver chose Eastern Michigan over the likes of Western Kentucky, West Virginia State, and Sacramento State. He reflected on what led him to go with the EMU Eagles.
“The coaches there have been more than just coaches to me since day one — they’ve felt like true family,” Oliver said. “Coach [Kasey] Teegardin and Coach [Tate] Omli especially stood out. They’ve gone above and beyond for me in ways no other coaches who recruited me ever did. They didn’t just say the right things — they followed through with real support, both on and off the field.”
Oliver did not stop there.
“From the first conversation, they made it clear that they genuinely cared about me as a person, not just as a player,” The culture up there is something special too — it’s real, it’s tight-knit, and it’s built on trust and relationships. Everyone I met made me feel wanted and welcomed, and it wasn’t just talk or empty promises. Coach Teegardin, Coach Omli, and the whole staff showed me through their actions that I truly belong there.”
Oliver received an offer from Eastern Michigan on Feb. 4. More than three months later – May 18 to be exact – he went ahead to set up his official visit dates that would lead to his ultimate decision.
Eastern Michigan is getting a special player in Oliver, who won Team MVP honors this past season at Wellington. As a junior, the Belle Glade native registered the following statistics:
•56 total tackles (42 solo)
•4 pass breakups
•3 interceptions
•1 forced fumble
•1 tackle for loss
•1 kickoff return for a touchdown
•128 total yards
Oliver is currently ranked as the No. 12 overall player from the Muck and the No. 39 overall player in Palm Beach County for the Class of 2026. You can expect his rankings to receive a boost on Monday, June 30 – the day that the Summer Refresh Top 45 list will be released.
