WELLINGTON – Since his freshman season, Chance Routson has consistently proven himself to be the best pure quarterback in Palm Beach County.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound signal caller has been on the map for his freshman and sophomore seasons at Boca Raton, leading his teams to FHSAA playoff berths in 2022 (4M) and 2023 (7A). And as a junior, Rouston moved on to play for Palm Beach Central and lead the program to the 7A regional semifinal round.
Of his three seasons at quarterback at the high school level, Routson’s best one camp this past season at Palm Beach Central. The No. 2-ranked quarterback and No. 12 overall player in Palm Beach County posted the following statistics in 12 games played as a junior:
PASSING
- 155-of-236; 65 percent completion rate
- 2,635 passing yards
- 31 touchdown passes
- 5 interceptions
RUSHING
- 418 rushing yards
- 7 rushing touchdowns
TOTALS
- 3,053 total yards
- 38 total touchdowns
As a result of his production and size, Rouston has earned eight verbal scholarship offers to the following college institutions:
- Navy
- FIU
- UT-Martin
- UConn
- FAU
- Georgia State
- West Georgia
- Wofford
Routson has had plenty of shining moments this offseason. His best one to date was at the FAU 7-on-7 Tournament last month (June 2025), when he actually caught a pass in mid-air.

Rouston on his awesome moment and how his recruiting process is going right now:
“I haven’t committed because I need to find a home,” Routson said. “I really believe I am one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Stats, film, and production for four straight years back it up. I go to toe to toe with anyone. And I truly believe God gave me a gift to be able to play both wide receiver and quarterback at such a high level. I think people should see it more as a good thing than a bad thing.”
Palm Beach Central 2026 wide receiver Jay Phipps, who recently transferred from Somerset Academy Canyons, spoke on Routson’s impact on the gridiron and beyond.
“Chance is a great all-around quarterback,” Phipps said. “Whether he’s throwing the ball or running, he’s going to make sure it’s efficient. He is a great character person and brings energy to the team. He’s the kind of guy to carry you on his back when you’re tired to make sure you succeed. And that also is carried off the field. It is a big factor at being a great friend. He definitely is a quarterback colleges don’t want to miss out on for sure.”
A great example of Routson’s all-around ability came at the conclusion of Palm Beach Central’s Youth Football Camp on Thursday (June 26), hosted by former teammate and now-Boston College wide receiver Nedrick Boldin. At this moment, we got to see Routson positively interacting with a slew of young campers through several drill segments:
- Individual drills at various positions
- 1-on-1’s
- 7-on-7’s
Routson spoke on how Boldin helped him to make a positive impact on the young campers.
“Ned being around those other high-level guys like Babo [Kamaree Williams], PJ [Preston Parker Jr.] and Waden [Charles], it definitely impacted the way I view the game of football and how my brain processes different things in the game,” Routson said. “I got to see the game from their point of view and how they attack different obstacles that come at them. Definitely helped. And as well as Ned and Waden did with their kid camps, it’s just a way for them to impact the community. It’s definitely something that they will pass down to me and I’ll keep the tradition going.”
Routson wants nothing more than to end his high school football on a high note for his upcoming senior season at Palm Beach Central.
“I did it last year and will beat it this year,” Routson said. “I’m in a competition with myself. Freshman year, I started on varsity and was No. 1 in South Florida in total yards. Sophomore year, I set the passing game record three different times. (continuously beating myself). Junior year, 3,000 yards, 38 touchdowns. No one else did it. Senior year, I’m coming for everything I never had.”
