First few weeks to savor: Royal Palm Beach off to amazing start

ROYAL PALM BEACH – Has any team in Palm Beach County history recorded a 195-0 scoring margin after four games played?

After conducting an extensive amount of research over the past several days, the answer is this:

Only this year’s Royal Palm Beach Wildcats varsity football team can make this verifiable claim.

We have the numbers to back it up. They are confirmed by MaxPreps.

The last two teams to allowed any points after its first four games were Glades Day (2014; 11 seasons ago) and Glades Central (1998; 27 seasons ago).

We have screen shots for proof on both Glades Day and Glades Central. You can see them right below.

But we are speaking of the 195-0 margin in particular. Remarkably, this happens with a first-year head coach in Sam Curry, a Belle Glade native who was the Royal Palm Beach offensive coordinator last season under previous head coach and program builder Chuck Kenyon.

Even more remarkably, there has been lots of talk about Royal Palm Beach’s schedule strength. Per MaxPreps, the Wildcats are ranked  at No. 251 in Florida, which evidently speaks to the level of competition they have played to date.

The truth: Port St. Lucie, John I. Leonard, Suncoast, and Dwyer are all 0-4 after Week 4. The combined record is 0-16.

Another truth: Royal Palm Beach (4-0; 1-0 in District 12-6A; No. 7 aggregate composite team ranking in Palm Beach County) greatly improves its level of competition in Week 5.

The opponent is Camden County, another 4-0 team that hails from South Georgia. The Kingsland (Ga.) team is currently ranked as No. 24 team in Georgia and No. 153 in the nation.

A Royal Palm Beach Wildcats upset win over the Camden County Wildcats tonight (Friday, Sept. 19; 7:30 p.m. kickoff) will do wonders for that perceived questionable strength of schedule.

“As we embrace this challenge, we know we’re creating something special,” Curry said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept. 18). “Being the first Royal Palm Beach High School varsity team to go out of state and play is an amazing milestone, especially knowing where this program was just two years ago. People may doubt us, people may hate, but it’s on us to prove them wrong. We’re coming. And we’re not stopping.”
