Chase for No. 1: RB Javian Mallory looks to cement his status as best in class

BOCA RATON – There has never been much of a question as to who the No. 1 overall player is in Palm Beach County.

Until now.

To be brutally honest, Javian Mallory should be our wire-to-wire No. 1 overall player in the 561. But there is one reason why the West Boca Raton senior and Miami hard verbal commit has stiff competition to hold on to No. 1.

It comes down to Mallory’s injury history.

After winning the 2023 Lou Groza High School Player of the Year honor as a sophomore, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back was limited to seven games as a junior. He finished last season with the following statistics:

RUSHING

•67 carries

•676 yards

•10 touchdowns

RECEIVING

•6 receptions

•39 receiving yards

TOTALS

•715 total yards

•10 total touchdowns

Mallory did enough to help West Boca Raton finish 15-0 and win the Class 6A state title in 2024 – both of which are firsts in school history.

Now for his senior season, Mallory has been dominant when healthy. Here are his statistics after playing seven out of West Boca Raton’s nine games:

RUSHING

•57 carries

•605 rushing yards

•7 rushing touchdowns

RECEIVING

•8 receptions

•131 receiving yards

•3 receiving touchdowns

SPECIAL TEAMS

•2 kickoff returns

•35 kickoff return yards

TOTALS

•771 total yards

•10 total touchdowns

Now if anyone wants to poke holes in Mallory’s hold on the No. 1 spot, they can do so at anytime.

But here is why Mallory is still No. 1.

In Week 9 against Cardinal Newman, Mallory did everything he could to help West Boca Raton come back from deficits of 13-0 and 20-6 in the second half. We will show you clips of what he did to put the team on his back.

Mallory finished the Palm Beach County Game of the Year with the following statistics:

RUSHING

•21 carries

•168 rushing yards

•1 touchdown

RECEIVING

•2 receptions

•17 receiving yards

•1 touchdown

ADDITIONALLY

•Caught 2-point conversion from West Boca Raton Junior quarterback Trey Moran to cut Cardinal Newman’s lead to 20-14 in the second half

Summary: Mallory contributed to 14 of West Boca Raton’s 20 overall points in his team’s eventual 26-20 overtime loss on the road to Cardinal Newman in Week 9 on Friday, Oct. 17.

Nobody performs better in big games than Mallory. This fact is not and should not be up for debate.

We need another masterpiece from Mallory in Week 11 against Atlantic. This game is on the road and it will be held tonight (Oct. 30) at 6:30 p.m.

“You know versus good competition is when I bring the best me out,” Mallory said.

Can Mallory hold off the competition to remain at No. 1?

We will know for sure in Week 11.

“Tell everyone watch the show tonight,” Mallory said.
