MIAMI – West Boca Raton is on top again.

For the second consecutive year, the Bulls have captured the Class 6A state title at Pitbull Stadium. They did so in all three phases of the game this time – offense, defense, and special teams – in a 31-0 shutout win over the West Broward Bobcats on Friday afternoon (Dec. 12).

After a scoreless first quarter, West Boca Raton (13-2 final record) went to work on the offensive side of the ball. Almost the entire production on offense in this one happened through the ground game, which was led by outgoing senior running back/Miami signee Javian Mallory (18 carries, 126 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns) and junior quarterback Trey Moran (11 carries, 133 rushing yards).

All three of West Boca Raton’s offensive scores came from Mallory.

Here is the sequence to how Mallory reached the end zone each time:

•50-yard touchdown with 8:04 left in the second quarter; 7-0 lead for West Boca Raton after extra point by junior kicker Tristan Lamb

•2-yard touchdown with 5:56 left in the third quarter; 24-0 lead for West Boca Raton after extra point by Lamb

•6-yard touchdown with 9:09 left in the fourth quarter; 31-0 lead for West Boca Raton after extra point by Lamb

Speaking of Lamb, the West Boca Raton special teams standout went 4-for-4 on his extra points in the 6A state title game. One of them came right after senior defensive back Tray Mitchell recovered a lost fumble that resulted in a 61-yard run to the end zone at the 5:22 mark of the second quarter.

The Mitchell-Lamb tandem gave West Boca Raton a 14-0 lead over West Broward (12-3 final record).

Guess what happened as time expired in the second quarter?

We were treated to a season-high 37-yard field goal from Lamb, who put West Boca Raton up 17-0 at halftime.
